Time to get businesses safely back to work: Melbourne Innovation Centre VCAT Outcome

Melbourne Innovation Centre (MIC) has been successful in its injunction bid hearing held at Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) this afternoon.

As proposed by VCAT, MIC will work with the relevant statutory authorities EPA and WorkSafe between now and 5 January 2023 to reopen impacted buildings at 2 Wingrove Street Alphington to ensure that businesses can re-enter and recommence operations safely.

In accepting the findings of today’s VCAT hearing, MIC Chief Executive Officer David Williamson said, “MIC prioritises the safety of employees, licensees, visitors and the general public. Today is a good result for MIC and its businesses, as our ambition is to get businesses safely back to work.”

“MIC has no guarantee from Council that following recent remediation works businesses will be able to re-enter closed buildings and recommence operations. That is unacceptable and we have no choice but to take a stand for our clients. Our clients represent and reflect the best of our surrounding Darebin communities working on important projects in the arts, food security, sustainability and the environment. I am hopeful that they will soon be able to safely get back to doing what they do best.”
